The Opportunities on the Short Side

After the US Regional Banking Crisis and having benefitted from shorts in Silicon Valley Bank and First Republic Bank, Jim Chanos will discuss the current short selling opportunities including a discussion of high conviction themes such as US commercial real estate and data centres.

The Chanos Equity Long/Short strategy is :

  • Unique approach : Alpha is generated via the short book while the long exposure is passive
  • Net exposure of +/-40% with an average of 20%
  • The UCITS version is the same as the offshore (KCP) strategy and offers a daily liquidity
  • Zero correlation with equity markets with negative correlation in severe down markets
  • Current portfolio has 45 fundamentals short positions, of which Jim Chanos believes >80% could fall by more than 70% in value.
